Modesto police make an arrest in a homicide investigation | What We Know

Through the investigation, police were able to identify McCullen as a suspect.

MODESTO, Calif. — The Modesto Police Department has made an arrest Friday evening in connection with the shooting death of a Modesto man early Friday morning.

Police say 43-year-old Edward McCullen was arrested following the death of 43-year-old Jose Valdez. According to police, officers responded just after 12 a.m. to a report of a shooting in the parking lot of Citi Auto Sales, located in the 900 block of McHenry Avenue. 

That's where they found Valdez with at least one gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Through the investigation, police were able to identify McCullen as a suspect. 

McCullen was eventually found and before 5 p.m. Friday, he was arrested.

He has been booked on multiple charges, including weapons violations and homicide.

Police say this is an active investigation, and anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Bolinger at 209-342-9162.
