OLIVEHURST, Calif. — UPDATE:
The paraglider who was entangled in PG&E powerlines Wednesday night was rescued after being stuck for hours.
Officials said the paraglider was attempting to land at Yuba County airport when he crashed into the power lines. The reason why the rescue attempt took nearly three hours was because PG&E had to ground the power lines, before it was deemed safe to make a rescue attempted.
"The difficultly was making sure that the lines were deenergized to make sure that our firefighters were safe before we could make patient contact," explained Olivehurst Fire Department Battalion Chief Randy York.
PG&E officials said they de-energized the powerlines while the paraglider was entangled, which caused thousands to be without power as crews rescued the man.
The utility restored power to most customers after the paraglider was rescued.
