Plumas County inmate found weeks after escaping from jail

Caleb Duerr was taken into custody by deputies after nearly a three-week search.

PLUMAS COUNTY, Calif. — The Plumas County Sheriff's Office said an inmate who escaped from jail was caught by deputies after Thursday.

According to the sheriff's office, Caleb Duerr was taken into custody after he was found at his home in Johnsville at 11 a.m.

Duerr was on the run for nearly three weeks after he escaped from Plumas County Jail in Quincy on Sept. 27. The sheriff's office considered Duerr to be violent and dangerous, prompting shelter-in-place orders for schools within the Plumas Unified School District.

After escaping the jail, Duerr was seen at an O'Reilly Auto Parts store in Quincy.

Duerr was located after the sheriff's office received information this week that he may have returned to his home.

Once investigations confirmed that the information was true, law enforcement established a perimeter around the area and spotted Duerr inside the home, the sheriff's office said.

After calling for additional officers and deputies from surrounding agencies, law enforcement units approached the home and called for Duerr to come out. Duerr surrounded and was taken into custody without incident.

Duerr was transported to Plumas County Jail and is being held without bail.

According to the Plumas County District Attorney's Office, Duerr was in jail for felony charges related to threats and domestic violence. He was also being charged with a misdemeanor of false imprisonment.
