Nearly 12-acre Prospector Park opens in Folsom. Space was under construction for 18 months

It broke ground in June 2023 on the same day as Fire Station 34. City staff said the two developments had a race between them to see which would finish first.

FOLSOM, Calif. — Prospector Park, a nearly 12-acre recreation space in Folsom’s development area south of Highway 50, celebrated its grand opening Saturday.

Located at 4578 Sparrow Drive next to Mangini Ranch Elementary School, the 11.8-acre Prospector Park is the first park in the 3,500-acre Folsom Plan Area bound by Highway 50, White Rock Road, Prairie City Road and the El Dorado County line.

The park features:

  • Tennis, volleyball and basketball courts.
  • Lighted sports fields.
  • A dog park with separate spaces for large and small dogs.
  • A group picnic structure.
  • Open-space nature area.
  • Ziplines.
  • A children’s play area.

It broke ground on the same day as Fire Station 34 in June 2023, and city staff said the two plan-area developments had a race between them to see which would finish first.

Fire Station 34 opened Sept. 26 after 15 months of construction. Prospector Park took 18 months.

About 300 feet, or 30 panels, of construction fencing surrounding the park was stolen Nov. 8, according to the Folsom Police Department. No additional items were taken, no property damage was reported and the city worked to replace the fence to maintain security.
