ROSEVILLE, Calif. — The mother of a Roseville 9-year-old found unresponsive and later declared dead is now facing a charge of homicide.
According to the Roseville Police Department, the investigation began Feb. 2 when first responders were called to a home on New England Drive for medical aid.
Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive 9-year-old boy. He was taken to UC Davis Medical Center where he was pronounced dead Feb. 5.
Roseville police say the boy’s adopted mother, 37-year-old Kimberly Blakley, was arrested and booked Wednesday on suspicion of child abuse and homicide.
The boy's adopted father was arrested later on Wednesday, on child endangerment and homicide charges, police said in a Thursday update. Police added that the child who died was adopted and not biologically related to the Blakleys.

“They're a wonderful family. And this is just horrible what's happened. It's like a nightmare,” said Ana Valdez, a neighbor in the area.
She said the family was always helpful to her and had a total of seven kids.
“She started with two when I knew her, and then she adopted one little boy in the hospital. Then later, social services came back and said we have a family of four,” said Valdez.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and the boy’s siblings are under protective custody.
