'My son deserves justice': Mother of man stabbed to death at DOCO speaks out

ABC10 spoke with the mother and aunt of the man fatally stabbed outside Golden 1 Center Tuesday night, as they search for answers.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The mother of a man stabbed to death this week in downtown Sacramento wants answers.

Sacramento police responded to a stabbing outside Golden 1 Center Tuesday evening, a little before 5 p.m.

They found 22-year-old LaRonn Wilson II injured, and he was pronounced dead later at the hospital.

“It's unreal,” said Martha Wilson, Wilson's mother. “He was taken too fast…My son deserves justice. He did not deserve what happened to him.”"

"His life was stolen from him,” Nicole Ramey, his aunt, added.

People attending a Christian artist’s concert at Golden 1 Center Tuesday evening exited after the show and saw crime tape, police officers and an active investigation.

“We are devastated at the way that he was murdered in front of the Golden 1 Center, at a Christian event, in front of everyone,” Wilson said.

The women said they don’t know all the details about why Wilson was at DOCO Tuesday evening. His mom said he might have missed the bus back to the Bay Area. She had been texting with him earlier that evening.

Police arrested a suspect in the deadly stabbing on Wednesday. 23-year-old Malik Wilson – who police said is not related to the victim – is now in the Sacramento County Jail. He faces a felony charge of murder and is being held without bail. His next court appearance is set for Friday afternoon.

Sacramento police said both men were experiencing homelessness. Wilson’s family said that was not true.

“He wasn't homeless. He had many doors. He has a lot of family,” Wilson said. “He was everything to me and my family. He was thoughtful, funny, cute."

Wilson’s mom said he lived both in the Sacramento area, with much of his family, and with her in the Bay Area.

Wilson was his mother’s firstborn. He was the oldest of eight siblings. He was also a young father, who leaves behind young kids.

“He's a wonderful big brother,” Wilson said. “That's where he usually spends most of his time, is with his siblings.”

Wilson and Ramey said Wilson knew the man now suspected of killing him when they were kids. They’re waiting for more information from the police investigation, including the suspect's motive.

“I want to thank the police and the public for the speedy apprehension of the suspect,” Wilson said. “We just want justice for LaRonn.”

The family has started a GoFundMe campaign for Wilson’s funeral and to help his young kids. People can contribute HERE.
