Man taken to hospital after Meadowview shooting is potential suspect, police say

It's unclear what led up to the shooting, but some neighbors tell ABC10 it may have started with a fight.

SACRAMENTO, Calif — A man was arrested on suspicion of assault-related charges after a shooting on Monday left four other people in a hospital.

The Sacramento Police Department said Wednesday 23-year-old Jayovanni Head of Sacramento was taken to a hospital after a shooting in the Meadowview neighborhood and is now being considered a potential suspect.

Head was booked on assault-related charges, according to the police department. It's unclear if these charges are directly related to the shooting. ABC10 asked police to clarify how Head was wounded in the shooting, but they didn't respond to specific questions.

According to Sacramento police, the Memorial Day shooting was reported around 8 p.m. at an apartment complex in the area of Meadowview Road and Coral Gables Court.

Officers found five people, including Head. Four adults and a teenage girl were taken to a hospital each with at least one gunshot wound.

The people's identities haven't been released but the police department said there were 2 men and 2 females, in addition to Head.

A spokesperson for the police department said all five people were in stable condition and expected to survive.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting, but some neighbors told ABC10 on Tuesday it may have started with a fight.

Many of them stayed tight-lipped in fear of retaliation, but a few people say they recall a group of kids playing with water guns before the shooting unfolded.
