SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A major movie will film in Sacramento early this week causing street closures and other commotions.
The project is set to start filming at 7 a.m. through Tuesday, according to a Sacramento city news release. The scenes will feature simulated gunfire, car chases and crashes, and helicopter work.
Helicopter scenes could extend into Monday, the city said. Road closures begin at 7 a.m. and all roads are expected to be reopened by 8 p.m.
Warner Bros. is listed on the filming permits but hasn't released many details about the film.
ABC10's Mark S. Allen, who is also a filmmaker, has been told that the film doesn't have a name yet. It's being directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Regina Hall. It’s one of the most expensive movies, with the most action to have ever shot in Sacramento.
“While the simulated elements may resemble real-life situations, the city and Sacramento Film and Media office wants the public to know that they are part of a controlled production for entertainment purposes only,” said Sacramento Film Office commissioner Jennifer West.
The office did not offer specifics but said it looks forward to sharing more about the project and its economic impacts on Sacramento in months to come.
According to the city, the filming schedule includes:
