SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The first glimpse of a new movie filmed in Sacramento and with the namesake of the city will debut next weekend at a film festival.
Premiering June 8 at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, "Sacramento" was filmed in multiple locations throughout the city including Old Sacramento. It runs for 84 minutes.
The film follows Ricky, played by Michael Angarano, who is kicked out of his convalescent home after his father's death and surprises his best friend Glenn, played by Michael Cera, with a road trip around California.
Ricky doesn't know that Glenn is about to start a family with his new wife Rosie, played by Kristen Stewart, and that Glenn is tired of his inability to grow up. Ricky and Glenn consider their past mistakes and the uncertainty of the future. Maya Erskine also stars in the film as a key figure in Ricky's life.
The film was written and directed by Michael Angarano, known for roles in "Sky High," "This Is Us" and "Minx" among others. Chris Smith is also credited as a screenwriter on the film.
"Sacramento" isn't the only movie filmed recently in the Northern California city. A movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson is set to be released in August 2025, though the name of the film hasn't yet been released.
The Tribeca Film Festival lasts from June 5-16. Find more information HERE.
