FOLSOM, Calif. — The Folsom mayor announced Thursday a semiconductor company opened a research and development facility in Folsom.

During Mayor Mike Kozlowski’s 2024 state of the city address, he said Folsom houses Samsung Semiconductor Inc. a research and development office in the city.

The office opened at 2365 Iron Point Road without announcement in November 2023, according to Chris Shepard, a city spokesman.

This places the office roughly half a mile down the street from Micron Technology Inc. and two and a half miles east of Intel Corp., both semiconductor companies with Folsom footprints.

Intel permanently laid off almost 2,000 employees at California offices from December 2022 to December 2023.

The Samsung office employs roughly 50 people and features an advanced computing lab and an advanced controller development team, Kozlowski said in his speech.

“This strategic move strengthens Folsom’s position as a city of choice for businesses and allows the city to harness local talent, fueling innovation in the semiconductor industry,” Kozlowski said.

The state of the city was hosted by Choose Folsom, the city’s chamber of commerce.
