STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. — The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office released edited video Friday of a deputy shooting and killing a man moving toward other law enforcement officers while holding a knife.

Deputies were initially called to the 3200 block of East Monte Vista Avenue May 5 about a suspicious person trespassing on private property while holding a knife.

The 911 call is included in the video press release published by the sheriff's office. A deputy arrived on scene at 4:11 p.m. after the call and met with who officials identified is 44-year-old Kevin Frey.

Frey and the deputy talk for a few minutes and Frey walks over to the 3100 block of North Quincy Road while the deputy followed in his patrol car.

A Modesto Police Department K-9 unit and other deputies arrived to the scene once Frey sat down under a tree and dug through his backpack.

Before a crisis negotiation team could arrive on scene, a deputy shot Frey who charged at another deputy with a knife.

Officials gave medical aid and Frey was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officials say Frey was wanted for felony arson after his apartment was destroyed four days prior.

The edited video can be viewed here but viewer discretion is advised as it is graphic in nature.
