DAVIS, Calif. — U.S News & World Report released its 2025 best colleges ranking and one Sacramento area school placed among the top 40.
UC Davis was ranked #33 out of 436 other national universities and tied #9 in top public schools. It marks the fourth consecutive year UC Davis has been ranked within the top 10 for public universities.
“This ranking from U.S. News and World Report reflects our bedrock commitment to student success,” said Chancellor Gary S. May. "UC Davis empowers students from every background with world-class educational opportunities, preparing them for careers and service to their communities.”
Here's what determined ranking
The methodology is calculated by using up to 17 measures of academic performance for national universities; and there are 13 measures for national liberal arts colleges, regional universities and regional colleges.
The methodology was minorly changed for 2025 rankings. Last year, first-generation graduation rates and first-graduation rate performance were factors in rankings. This year, U.S. News took some existing indicators for the rankings including Pell Grant-recipient graduation performance and graduation rates among national universities.
Still, most of the rankings are related to how successful the school is at enrollment and graduating students with achievable debt, and postgraduate accomplishments.
