Teen killed in West Sacramento car accident identified by school district

The Washington Unified School District identified the person who died as Yovanni Angel Miranda.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Yovanni Angel Miranda was identified by the Washington Unified School District as the person killed in a West Sacramento car accident over the weekend.

The crash happened Saturday around 12 a.m. near Southport Parkway and Silverwood Road. According to West Sacramento Police Department, a car overturned and caught fire while two people were inside.

Miranda died at the scene and the other person, identified by the school district as Miguel Nava Romero, is in critical condition. The school district described them as former students.

"Our hearts go out to the families and friends of both young men during this incredibly difficult time. The impact of Yovanni’s loss and the ongoing concern for Miguel weigh heavily on our entire school community. We stand together to offer our support, thoughts, and prayers to all affected by this heartbreaking event," the school district said in a statement.

Officials said their counseling team and support staff are available to help students and staff.
