Boyles Fire in Clearlake: 30 structures, dozens of cars destroyed by blaze

Fire officials said about 40 to 50 vehicles were lost to the fire as well.

CLEARLAKE, Calif. — Click here for the latest updates on the Boyles Fire in Clearlake.

Some evacuation orders in Clearlake have lifted after a wildfire sparked in the area, but some still remain in place.

The so-called Boyles Fire is burning in the area of Dam Road and Boyles Avenue Sunday afternoon.

According to Cal Fire, the fire is around 90 acres in size. It was reported around 2:15 p.m. The fire is 10% contained, but forward progress hasn't been stopped as of Sunday night. Officials said there are about 30 structures destroyed, but fire officials said about 40 to 50 vehicles were lost to the fire as well.

Spot fires were among the challenges for crews during the firefight.

"Every time we turned around there was a new spot fire. And it's not a straight line to get from Point A to Point B. It was a challenge just to get those people evacuated," said Lake County Fire Protection District Chief William Sapeta.

"There were literally hundreds of spot fires coming off of this," he added.

There are no reported injuries.

State Senator Mike McGuire said all of the financial burden for the Boyles Fire falls on the city of Clearlake, but they are trying to secure a grant for reimbursement.

"There is no other county in the state of California that has been impacted by wildland fire more than Lake County. It is devastating. But over 60% of Lake county's landmass has burned since 2015. Tonight, our prayers are with the neighbors here in Clearlake and the residents of Lake County," McGuire said.

Governor Gavin Newsom confirmed Sunday night that the Fire Management Assistance Grant was secured to help with the fire.

“California is grateful for the Biden Administration’s ongoing support as our heroic firefighters and first responders work night and day to contain these challenging fires. We’ll continue to work closely with our local and federal partners to safeguard lives and protect property,” Newsom said in a statement.
