Maria Fire in Calaveras County: Evacuations, maps and updates

The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office said the fire started in the early morning hours around the Mokelumne Hill and Mountain Ranch area.

A wildfire, called the Maria Fire, sparked Tuesday causing evacuations in Calaveras County, California.

Cal Fire said the fire is about 50 acres and 5% contained as of 8 a.m.

The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office said the fire started in the early morning hours around the Mokelumne Hill and Mountain Ranch area.

According to Cal Fire, the fire is in the North Folk Mokelumne River drainage and is holding steady. It isn't threatening Jackson or San Andres as of Tuesday morning.

Evacuation orders and warnings are in effect for Zone CCU-042-B and Zone CCU-030-A. Evacuation warnings are in effect for Zone CCU-029.

Road Closures:

  • Jesus Maria Road closed at Hawver Road
  • Jesus Maria Road closed at Music Gulch
  • Jesus Maria Road closed at Highway 26

WILDFIRE PREPS

If you live in a wildfire-prone zone, Cal Fire suggests creating a defensible space around your home. Defensible space is an area around a building in which vegetation and other debris are completely cleared. At least 100 feet is recommended.

The Department of Homeland Security suggests assembling an emergency kit that has important documents, N95 respirator masks, and supplies to grab with you if you’re forced to leave at a moment’s notice. The agency also suggests signing up for local warning system notifications and knowing your community’s evacuation plans best to prepare yourself and your family in cases of wildfires.
