PG&E canceled outages to some Bay Area counties. Here's where and when to expect outages

Much of the Bay Area won't have its power shut off during this round of PG&E outages after wind speeds dropped overnight, the utility company confirmed.

12:15 p.m. update

PG&E estimates roughly 365,000 customers remain in the dark due to the company's power outages.

Since Saturday, Oct. 26, 723,000 customers have had their power restored.

Customers in Kern County should expect the “all clear” notification on Thursday morning.

UPDATE: Oct. 30, 3:15 a.m.

Much of the Bay Area won't have its power shut off during this round of PG&E outages after wind speeds dropped overnight, the utility company confirmed early Wednesday morning.

With Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and San Mateo counties no longer going dark, the amount of customers impacted by the outages drops by about 30,000 to 510,000 across the 22 counties.

The number of customers previously dropped to 540,000 after PG&E announced it would not shut power to Humboldt and Siskiyou counties.

A complete, updated list of how many customers are going to be without power in this round of shutoffs is below.

ABC10 will update this article as more information becomes available.

ORIGINAL:

While nearly a million people remain without power across California, another round of PG&E power shutoffs expected Tuesday would put about two million more in the dark as the utility hopes to prevent its equipment from starting more fires.

The next round of PG&E shutoffs — the third shut off in seven days — could affect up to 596,000 customers across 30 counties, including nearly 120,000 customers in Marin County. It will be the fourth significant shutoff in October.

The utility restored power to more than 556,000 customers by Monday night, leaving more than a million people still in the dark ahead of Tuesday's shutoffs.

The new outages are in anticipation of two days of high winds and dry forecasts, similar to last weekend's weather, which strengthened the Kincade Fire in Sonoma County and helped spread the Getty Fire in Los Angeles that destroyed six homes and threatened 10,000 others.

In a court filing Monday, PG&E informed the judge handling its criminal sentence for felonies stemming from the 2010 San Bruno explosion, that its equipment might have started the Kincade Fire, which has burned more than 75,000 acres in wine country.

The utility also said its equipment might have started a fire over the weekend that destroyed a tennis club and forced evacuations in Lafayette, a city just east of Walnut Creek in Contra Costa County.

PG&E is already under intense scrutiny after its equipment started some of the largest and deadliest fires in California history, which killed more than 100 people in 2017 and 2018.

PG&E announced Monday night that the next round of outages would come in nine phases. Here are PG&E's planned stages for outages Tuesday:
