SACRAMENTO, California — The Sacramento Hornets outlasted the Weber State Wildcats in their homecoming game Saturday night.
In front of the home crowd, the Hornets beat the Wildcats 51-48 in a thrilling overtime finish.
Sac State went into the fourth quarter with a 41-24 lead, but the game became tied after the Hornets allowed 17 unanswered points in the final 15 minutes of regulation.
The Hornets and Wildcats each exchanged touchdowns before the game came down to both of the team's kickers.
After Sac State kicker Zach Schreiner gave his team a three-point lead in overtime, the game went final after Wildcats kicker Kyle Thompson missed a 27-yard field goal.
Hornets quarterback Carson Conklin passed for 357 yards and three touchdowns. Elijah Tau-Tolliver ran for 141 yards and three touchdowns and Anderson Grover had eight catches for 136 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
The win improves Sac State to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the Big Sky Conference. Weber State drops to 3-5 overall and 2-2 in Big Sky play.
The Hornets will look to keep the momentum going when they go on the road to take on Idaho State on Oct. 26 at 3 p.m.

Sac State is coming off a tough loss. The Hornets are looking for its third win of the season while Weber State hopes to get its fourth win.
Last week, Sac State was ranked No. 18 in the Stats Perform Top 25 Poll and No. 20 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll.
Unfortunately, the Hornets are not ranked after last week’s performance against Eastern Washington. Weber State is unranked.
Weber State had a close game last week against Northern Colorado, as the two went head-to-head scoring on both ends of the field but unfortunately fell short to the Bears 21-17.

Tonight is Sac State's homecoming game. The team is heading into week three of the Big Sky Conference play, taking on Weber State which finished 7th in the 2023 season.
Last week, the Hornets took on Eastern Washington, which finished 10th in the 2023 season. The Hornets lost to the Eagles 35-28.
Sac State wide receiver Jared Gipson is coming off a strong solo-man game. Gipson finished last week’s game with four receptions for 68 yards. After his performance, he is now ranked sixth in Sacramento State school history with 1,845 receiving yards.
Sac State could have its hands full with Weber State quarterback Richie Muñoz, who had a solid game against Northern Colorado last weekend. Muñoz was 13 of 26 for 171 yards and a touchdown.
The Wildcats are 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the Big Sky Conference sitting in third place.
