UC Davis defeats Portland State on controversial TD as time expires | WATCH THE PLAY

Aggies quarterback Miles Hastings threw an 11-yard touchdown pass as time expired. Officials reviewed the play to confirm if Trent Tompkins crossed the goal line.

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis defeated Portland State on a controversial touchdown as time expired Saturday.

Aggies quarterback Miles Hastings threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Trent Tompkins for the 27-26 win.  The play was reviewed to confirm if Tompkins crossed the goal line.  The play stood.  

Portland State appeared to have won the game on the previous play but officials put on second back on the clock for what would become the game-winning touchdown.

WATCH:

The Aggies improved to 5-1 (2-0 Big Sky) on the year.  The Vikings fell to 0-5 (0-2 Big Sky). 

Hastings passed for 398 yards, three touchdowns and had one interception. Aggies running back Lan Larison ran for 133 yards and caught 9 passes for 109 yards and had a receiving touchdown.

UC Davis Aggies and Portland State Vikings will go head-to-head today at 1:00 p.m. in Hillsboro, Oregon. 

Both teams are starting the second week of conference play. The Aggies finished 5th in the Big Sky Conference last season. 

The Aggies could get their fifth straight win today. 

UC Davis is ranked #9 in Stats Perform Top 25 and #8 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll. Portland State is unranked. 

Last year, the Vikings, finished 8th in the Big Sky Conference. 

The Vikings lost to Chattanooga Mocs 45-30 last week.

Portland State is currently 0-4 and ranked #11 in the conference. 

Game Details

Aggies Last Week

The Aggies hosted the Idaho Vandals. The Aggies defeated the No. 4 Vandals 28-26 with a strong first half and overcame a late charge by the Vandals. 

Aggie quarterback Miles Hastings finished with 248 yards passing, throwing for a season-high three touchdowns on 25 of 32 passing. 

UC Davis running back Lan Larison is tied with G.P. Muhammad and Jermaine Rucker for rushing touchdowns. Larison has 28 in his career. 

This was the first win over a top-five program for UC Davis. First-year head coach Tim Plough marked his first win in the Big Sky Conference.
