WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Construction is underway at Sutter Health Park ahead of the Athletics arrival next spring.
The A’s told ABC10 construction of the team’s new clubhouse at the West Sacramento ballpark is “progressing as planned.”
“The two-story facility beyond the left field wall will feature all the amenities of a typical Major League clubhouse, including a dressing room, training room, training facility, full gym, manager and coaches' offices, kitchen, dining room and dual batting cages,” the A’s said.
Sutter Health Park’s field is also in the process of renovation with a natural grass playing surface rather than artificial turf that was initially planned. The ballpark is also home to the Sacramento River Cats, the San Francisco Giants top Minor League team.
ABC10 caught a glimpse of the ballpark construction with drone footage. Raw drone video shows construction of the playing surface with the entire field covered in dirt.
Major League Baseball said during the summer an artificial turf would be installed to withstand a schedule full of A’s and River Cats regular games over 186 days. Following players' concerns of artificial turf and weighing the potential risks due to summer heat, the decision was made to move forward with a natural grass field.
Other upgrades being made at the park include premium seating areas such as the Solon Club, Legacy Club and Gilt Edge Club.
The A’s are temporarily calling Sutter Health Park home for three seasons as they wait for their planned stadium to be built on the Las Vegas Strip. The team plans to permanently relocate to Las Vegas after calling Oakland home for 56 years.
When the team begins the 2025 season, they won't have a city attached to their name and will simply go by the Athletics or A's.
Opening Day at Sutter Health Park will be March 31 against the Chicago Cubs at 7:05 p.m.
