Doug McDermott signed to the Sacramento Kings

The Kings traded Jalen McDaniels for a 10-year free-agent veteran from the San Antonio Spurs.

SACRAMENTO, California — The Sacramento Kings announced a new addition to its roster by signing a 1-year contract with Doug McDermott.

According to the Kings, Jalen McDaniels, a 2019 2nd-round draft pick from San Diego State, was traded to the San Antonio Spurs for McDermott.

McDaniels started his career playing for the Charlotte Hornets for three seasons and later moved to the Philadelphia 76ers and Toronto Raptors, finishing it off with the Sacramento Kings.

The Kings have only had four preseason games and McDaniels was seen in two before getting traded.

McDermott, a 32-year-old from North Dakota, has now entered his seventh location in his NBA career. He started his career in Chicago before going to the Oklahoma City Thunder, New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks, Indiana Pacers, and San Antonio Spurs.

According to Bleacher Report, the 10-year, 6'6" veteran plays the role of a small/power forward and averaged 13.6 points and shot 38.8% from behind the arc with the Indiana Pacers in 2018-2022.

McDermott is 41% from the 3-point range over his career. The Kings now have perimeter players like De’Aaron Fox, DeMar DeRozan, Keegan Murray, Keon Ellis and now Kevin Huerter coming back from an injury.

Four preseason games in, the Sacramento Kings are shooting 36.6% from the 3-point field goal range, according to ESPN.

With the Kings last in the Western Conference right now, McDermott might be what the team needs when it comes to shooting.
