LAS VEGAS — The San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs will face off in the Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.
But ahead of the big game, the 49ers got an early morning wake-up call due to a false fire alarm at their hotel. The 49ers are staying at the Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort and Spa, according to The Athletic.
Shanahan said he and the other coaches were already working in the basement when the alarm went off at 6 a.m. and they didn’t hear it.
But when he saw his players later in the morning, he heard all about it.
“By the time I saw the players and asked them how their night was they were all complaining about the fire alarm and all having to go outside," Shanahan said. “I didn’t realize how big a deal it was until I met them. I think it was a pain for them to get up at 6 and go outside.”
Niners tight end George Kittle told the media during a press conference that Christian McCaffrey and Nick Bosa were the grumpiest about the false alarm, according to ESPN.
"It had to be them," Kittle said. "You don't want to wake the sleeping bear. But Christian was not happy too."
While talking to the press Thursday, McCaffrey said he didn't think the false fire alarm was accidental.
"I think there's no way it's random," McCaffrey said. "It's part of it. It's just more wood thrown on the fire."
Bosa echoed McCaffrey's words, according to ESPN.
The fire alarm happened Thursday, the same day the 49ers had their most intense practice this week, according to a pool report, going an hour and 27 minutes.
Coach Kyle Shanahan said he was pleased with the effort.
"I think it’s been great,” he told the pool reporter. “The first two days (of Super Bowl week) are always a challenge. Yesterday was really good, today was even better. Having these two days in a row where we can get as close to our routine as possible is great.”
