SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Weather Impact Alert Day continues Friday along with the Heat Advisory which runs until 8 p.m. for the valley, foothills and Delta. Highs are once again well into the triple digits, between 103° and 106° for much of the valley. This is 10-15 degrees above average for this time of year.

Although highs will be similar on Friday to the last few days, we should get a little bit more of a Delta Breeze this evening. It won't be significant, but it will help to bring some cooler temps into the valley during Friday night football games.

Also of note, we mark a dubious anniversary today.

September 6, 2022, saw the hottest-ever temperature in Sacramento. We made it to 116° on this day two years ago!

Two years ago today, Sacramento saw its hottest all-time temperature of 116°!

The record-shattering heat placed extreme stress on the California power grid, with CAISO having declared an Energy Emergency Alert 3 — the last step before rotating blackouts — on this day in 2022 for only the second time in 20 years.

The forecast high today is 103°. Imagine adding another 13 degrees of heat on top of that! Yikes! Truly a remarkable record, especially so late in the season.

The good news is that changes are just around the corner.

The high pressure that has been sitting overhead will move east starting tomorrow, and this will result in temperatures coming back down towards seasonal. For Saturday and Sunday, highs will be in the middle 90s. We'll also see the return of more significant Delta Breezes, something we've been missing the last few days.

We're likely looking at a further pattern change for next week, but importantly, there are no more triple-digit days in the near-term forecast.
