California Winter Storm: Thunderstorms possible in afternoon, chain controls in Sierra

Another 1-2 feet of snow is expected above 5,500 feet through Wednesday before the region gets a chance to dry out the second half of the work week.

CALIFORNIA, USA — The potential for thunderstorms returns Tuesday afternoon, but they won’t have the severe potential that the Monday storms did as wet winter weather continues impacting California.

A Wind Advisory is in effect through early Tuesday with gusts to 45mph. Power outages and possible tree issues will continue to be possible. A Flood Watch is in effect across the valley through Wednesday morning. Creeks and streams will be running high, as will the major rivers.

A 2% chance of tornadodevelopment exists in the Sacramento Valley on Tuesday.

While the valley and foothills are dealing with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, the Sierra will continue to pick up snowfall. Another 1-2 feet of snow is expected above 5,500 feet through Wednesday before the region gets a chance to dry out the second half of the work week.

Chain controls and road closures are possible through Wednesday. Dry weather is ahead to wrap up this very active weather week.
