Interstate 80 in the Sierra Nevada acted more like a parking lot than a busy connector between California and Nevada Friday due to a severe winter storm closing the roads amid a Blizzard Warning.
As of 6 a.m. Saturday, CalTrans says Interstate 80 is closed from Colfax in Placer County to the Nevada state line. Chains are required on Highway 50.

Cars and trucks came to a standstill at Drum Forebay Friday afternoon before being forced to turn around once I-80 closed in both directions due to near whiteout conditions, spinouts and more poor weather.
California Highway Patrol Truckee has been working to clear the roads as best they can as the storm intensifies into Saturday. The Blizzard Warning, a High Wind Advisory and more warnings last through Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
The severe weather caused businesses and ski resorts to close and officials to strongly discourage travel all Friday until Sunday.
It put a wrench in some weekend plans.
“Just a bunch of folks from our company getting together trying to do a ski trip. And you know, unfortunately, these things happen,” said Matt Green.
Officials are stressing the need to avoid unnecessary travel if possible this weekend.
“The overall message is just don't go. If you're looking to have fun, wait till after the storm,” said Jeremy Linder, spokesperson for Caltrans District 3.
He warns that even though it may only be scattered showers in the valley and at the beginning of your drive, “things drastically change once you increase your elevation.”
