SACRAMENTO, Calif. — First responders across California are bracing for the arrival of heavy rain and snow along with gusty wind and thunderstorms, bringing threats for hail and even tornadoes over the holiday weekend and into next week.
A Winter Storm Warning, Wind Advisory and Flood Watch kicked into effect for parts of the Sacramento region Sunday and will last through Wednesday morning.
California's Office of Emergency Services prepositioned emergency officials in multiple Northern California counties including Colusa and Calaveras Counties.
Forecasters predict that the valley between Yuba City and Modesto will have a 5% chance of tornado or funnel cloud development during the day on Monday.
On Sunday, the state's largest power utility, Pacific Gas and Electric, encouraged customers to prepare for potential power outages by stocking up on emergency supplies and charging devices.
The California Highway Patrol told drivers to be prepared for potential chain controls with more snow incoming after a smaller, less powerful storm moved through the region Saturday evening.
