SACRAMENTO, Calif. — This week in Northern California should be the perfect example of what the fall season should be.
Mornings across the Sacramento Valley will start in the mid to upper 40s, but temperatures are expected to top out in low 80s through Wednesday.
After Wednesday, though, is when things begin to change. Clouds associated with a cold front will move in Wednesday into early Thursday morning, with temperatures dropping into the low 70s. The front could also bring a slight chance for rain in the Valley.
A bigger concern for rain is in the Foothills and portions of the coastal range of Northern California. Basically, the further north you head, the greater the chance you'll encounter showers.
Gradual warming is expected Friday through the weekend, with another slight chance for showers moving in Saturday. Otherwise, we should see mostly sunny skies for the next 10 days.

While the Red Flag Warnings have been lifted for fire danger in much of Northern California, dry grass is still a concern for sparking fire. The Caples Fire in the El Dorado National Forest is the perfect example of this as it was a controlled burn that firefighters say got out of hand. At the beginning of the week, winds will be calm to light, but may begin picking up steam midweek as the cold front moves through.
