FOLSOM, Calif. — The city of Folsom announced its Historic Ice Rink opened Friday and will run through the winter until Jan. 20, 2025.
The ice rink was temporarily closed for repairs before winter in 2023. Those upgrades cost about $800,000. The cost of the repairs came from the association and some equipment was from Italy. A temporary ice rink was moved to a nearby parking lot.
The 2024 setup includes firepits, lighting, special events and a party zone.
Many visitors come through the city of Folsom every year for the ice skating rink as well as the Christmas Tree Lighting that happens at the rink on Dec. 6th.
"We have over 20,000 skaters coming through during a season," said Gloria Cunningham, General Manager of Folsom Ice Rink. "Besides the skaters, just during the whole holiday season for Historic Folsom, we have over 200,000 visitors coming through. So there's a lot of people.
There are sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays at 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m.
On Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays the sessions are at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Every session is 90 minutes long.
"We have some movie nights," Cunningham said. 'We have "The Grinch.' I think we're doing 'Polar Express' and 'Elf.' 'Elf' is definitely a big hit to skate to that movie, so it's gonna be a lot of fun."
