PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — The family of four allegedly killed in a series of week-long murders by their relative were identified Tuesday as two adults and two teenagers, Placer County Sheriff confirmed.
Shankar Hangud, 53, was arrested in October after he allegedly killed his wife, 46-year-old Jyothi Shankar and their three kids, Varum Shankar, 20, Gauri Hangud, 16, and Nischal Hangud, 13, according to Placer County Sheriff's official Lt. Andrew Scott.
Placer County court records filed last month allege that Shankar killed two of the victims Oct. 7 and a third one the next day in Roseville. The fourth victim, Varum, was found dead in Shankar's car after he drove to a Mount Shasta police station to turn himself in and confess.
County prosecutors say Varum was killed days later in Siskiyou County.
Police later found the bodies of Shankar's wife and the two teenagers inside their Roseville apartment.
Shankar pleaded not guilty to all charges.
