92,000 pounds of items and 1,150 needles cleaned out from Camp Resolution

As of Wednesday, over 92,000 pounds of items, including needles and metal waste, have been cleared from the lot.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — As of Wednesday, more than 92,000 pounds of various items, including 1,150 needles and 10,000 pounds of metal waste, have been cleared from the former site of Camp Resolution

There were also 47 vehicles towed away from the Sacramento lot, which included 16 city-owned trailers. 12 cars were also towed.

The Department of Community Response (DCR) said they have placed 10 of the approximately 50 former residents of the encampment into temporary shelters. Those people were either moved to city shelters or motels. DCR said they were able to reunite one person with their family. 11 dogs and three cats were also taken to the Front Street Animal Shelter

As ABC10 previously reported, about 50 people who lived at the encampment at Colfax Street and the Arden-Garden Connector were forced out as city officials shut it down Monday morning,

The people who lived at the camp said they were left in limbo, living on the streets as they tried to find a place to stay.

In early 2023, the non-profit organization Safe Ground Sacramento established a lease with the city on behalf of the residents, but issues with the site and lease this year led to the non-profit terminating the agreement with the city earlier this summer, with an ultimate eviction date of August 26.

Registered owners of trailers and cars that were on the site will need to coordinate with the Sacramento Police Department and the tow companies to recover their vehicles.

They said the site remains closed to the public and the city will monitor it, address any damage that has been done, and enforce any applicable laws and ordinances.
