SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — Sacto By Night Lounge is reopening its doors two weeks after two people, including one of the club’s owners, were shot and killed in what law enforcement are calling a gang shooting.
On the first night back, the nightclub honored the two victims killed.
Employee Joseph Thao says 50% of reopening night’s profits are going to help both victims’ families, calling shooting a sad and unfortunate situation.
“Everything has been stressful. But we all came together and saying that tonight is the night that we are going to be reopening," said Thao, collaborator host with the club.
One of the club owner’s 51-year-old Binh Do and 23-year-old Ryu Kai Her were shot and killed in late November.
They were in the wrong place at the wrong time when a fight broke out between gang members.
“The fight was out here,” said Thao. “It was not in the club.”
Do is survived by his three children and wife.
Just before the club reopened, Kai Her’s friends and family came together near the place he took his last breath.
"We will be laying him down to rest on Monday," said Mee Yang, Kai Her's mother. “But there is no closure until we know all the trials are done and we know who the murderer is.”
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says suspects were detained in connection to the shooting near the scene, but identities have not been released yet.
Kai Her's mother is asking for friends and family to stay strong through this ordeal, keeping his memory alive, providing forgiveness and keeping the club in their prayers.
“[The club has] nothing to do with this and again, it is just really unfortunate. Things may happen inside the building and then escalated outside,” said Yang.
As the club reopens and honors the victims, is also brings a new sense of safety along with it.
“I just want people to know that this is a safe place,” said Thao. "We are increasing security here. I just want people to come out and enjoy.”
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office tells ABC10 there are no updates at this time about the suspects they have detained.
