CALIFORNIA, USA — The Aero Fire is 87% contained as of Sunday evening, and remaining evacuation warnings placed in Calaveras County due to the fire were lifted Saturday.
The fire started around 3:30 p.m. Monday, and is located along Rock Creek Road and Highway 4, north of Copperopolis.
No injuries were reported but hundreds of people were evacuated from their homes.
Three structures were destroyed, and one was damaged during the fire, according to Cal Fire. Its cause is still under investigation. Firefighters reported minimal fire activity on the front lines Saturday morning with most of the smoke in the area coming from smoldering of large fuels in ash pits and stump holes, ABC10 previously reported.
Firefighters say it’s possible smoke will be visible within the fire's boundary for several weeks.
The Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Stockton men within the evacuation zone Wednesday on suspicion of mail theft.
Sites Fire
The battle against the Sites Fire in Colusa County is led by the Cal Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa unit.
The fire began after 1:30 p.m. Monday and is 48% contained as of around 7:40 p.m. Sunday evening. It is 19,195 acres large, and its cause is still under investigation, according to Cal Fire.
It is located along Sites Lodoga Road and Wilson Creek, southeast of Stonyford.
An evacuation update as of 10 a.m. Sunday said evacuation orders for the following areas are now evacuation warnings for residents only:
- Sites Lodoga Road from Sites to Lodoga.
- Leesville Lodoga Road to Leesville.
- Leesville Road to Huffmaster Road.
- Huffmaster Road to Sites.
- Leesville Road to Antelope Valley Ranch and North from Antelope Valley Ranch to Sites.
Mandatory hard closures remain at Sites Lodoga Road at Sites, Bear Valley Road at Brim Road, Lodoga Stonyford Road at Leesville, and Leesville Rd at King Road, according to Cal Fire.
The roads are still heavily populated by emergency vehicles and are closed to non-residents, according to the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office.
Watts Fire
The 100-acre Watts Fire in Fresno County started just before 4:30 p.m. Saturday. It is 30% contained as of 6:40 a.m. Sunday.
It is located along the 26000 Block of Watts Valley Road in eastern Fresno County, and its cause is still under investigation, according to Cal Fire. The lead agency tending to the fire is the Cal Fire Fresno-Kings unit.
Some evacuation warnings are in place, and those can be viewed under the “evacuation zone map” section of the webpage HERE.
Post Fire
The 15,690-acre Post Fire spread across Los Angeles and Ventura counties that began June 15 located along Gorman Road is approximately 83% contained just before 7 a.m. Sunday, according to Cal Fire.
Evacuation orders include south of Gorman Post Road, west of Interstate 5, east of the Los Angeles County line and north of Pyramid Lake.
Evacuation warnings include areas south of Pyramid Lake, west of Interstate 5, east of Los Angeles County line and just north of Templin Highway.
The fire’s cause is still under investigation and the incident’s lead agency is the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
