Wind advisories coming to an end, strong gusts stick around through Tuesday

The winds on Monday will still be an issue for those needing to work outdoors. They may continue to be an annoyance even into Tuesday.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Wind gusts peaked between 30-50 mph in the valley on Sunday, with gusts greater than 100 mph reported in parts of the Sierra. This caused downed power lines, trees, and branches.

In Modesto, police say there were 35 reports of downed trees, including one that crushed a car. The trees owned by the city and neighbors say they want the city to pay for the damage.

As of Monday morning, power had been restored to thousands of people after winds toppled power poles, knocking electricity out across northern California on Sunday.

Wind advisories were extended Monday through 10 a.m. for the Carquinez Straight. Other wind advisories were extended through the Sierra from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
